sick

not that i take in everything this michael moore character says without at least a grain of salt, but kara and i did see his newest film (sicko) last night. it did make us weep a little, and it doesn't make canada sound at all bad. we are also of course considering england, france, and cuba.

universal healthcare? hello? why not us? kara and i are mostly healthy and we can't complain about that, but over the summer, with her finger injury and subsequent surgery and my colonoscopy, we racked up some medical bills and have paid a fair amount of those out-of-pocket.

what's wrong with this country? anyone?

kara has been looking on the net for jobs in canada and things look promising. the sites are very encouraging. i emailed my uncle, who moved to canada in 1981 and hasn't looked back, for tips and tricks for expatriating.

of course a downside of our moving to canada that it takes us ever further away from my sister and brother-in-law (in ohio) and parents (in maryland). no argument that that's a downside. and of course my parents want us to move to baltimore. but hey - won't they love visiting us in canada?

anyway. this is still a futuristic dream we're having.

in the meantime, here's an incidental snap of steve and dagmar that kara took yesterday, and maybe it's something about their tilting aspects that reminds me of that old comic strip "bloom county," may it rest in peace.
